While looking at Ba Le's website for their Twitter handle (they don't seem to have one), I noticed:
    Coming Soon
    Uptown (Spring 2013)
    Ba Le Bakery
    5018 N. Broadway St
    Chicago, IL 60640

This is the space that was vacated when they moved one door south. I've been wondering what would happen to it, and it would seem that they're continuing to expand their line of offerings. (Note that the other locations are called "Ba Le Sandwiches.") I've only had a few of their pastry offerings but have enjoyed those I've had. And there's no disputing that they do a wonderful job baking bread.

Coming soon sign: Cafecito at Wells and Washington, under the El, east side of the street. With the recent Loop opening of Ba Le around the corner, the sandwich situation in the Loop is much improved.

Closer to Madison than Washington and it's been "coming soon" for a couple of months now.

I can't believe Steve's Deli and Kreger's closed, especially Kreger's that place was great.

Alimentari recently closed and Vincezo's Pizzeria opened up in the West Loop on Madison.

Hi- I just got a notice in the mail about a zoning hearing for 1615 Oak Avenue in Evanston. This is the building where Oak Street Market used to be. It is being gutted out right now, and Smylie Brothers Restaurant and Brewery is moving into the space this summer. They are having a zoning hearing, because the owners want to convert the 7 parking spaces in the front into an outdoor seating area. Along with craft beer, they are going to serve BBQ and pizza. Here is a link to their facebook page, with pictures of work done so far.

They are installing a Southern Pride smoker. I can't wait for the place to open up. I only live 2 blocks away.

    Hope this helps, Nancy

Yogurt Square, 4701 N Lincoln, has all the glass covered in paper with a sign on the front door saying "Happy Holidays". A couple of friends who were pregnant last summer satisfied several days of cravings there. Not a surprise winter would be a difficult time. Anyone know more about the closing?

    Moderator Note:

    LTH,

We just removed a string of posts on this thread about yet another closing that did not actually happen. This is the second time this has happened in the past few days. Even though the error was subsequently corrected by the person who originally posted it, such irresponsible posts can be immeasurably damaging. Out of respect to the places in question, we removed the posts to ensure that the erroneously posted information does not inadvertantly find its way into an internet search someday.

Imagine how you would feel if someone posted publicly that your business or place of employment had closed when, in fact, it had not. So please, if you are posting about a closing, do not do so without making absolutely certain that your information is correct and accurate in every way. In cases like these, it's way more important to be accurate than early with your information. The best course of action may be to make a phone call to the establishment before posting anything. But whatever you do, make sure you are 100% correct before posting about a closing on this thread or any other in these forums.

    Thanks,

LOL, you didn't have to confess, especially since it wasn't just you. As I posted above, it's happened a couple of times recently (and other times over the past few months). That's just too often for our community to be making preventable errors that could potentially affect the livelihoods of others.

    Thanks again,

I don't know much about it but from the comments and pictures on their facebook page, it looks like they'll be making their own tortillas. Based on Ronnie's reminder, I did a quick Google search to verify my post above about Yogurt Square (again, not fine dining, but sheesh, there's an active thread on McD's wings, and this girl likes her low-fat frozen treats). Per the FB page: "We are re-opening by beginning of February." So there you have it, the rest of the story. And thanks for all you do, Ronnie, as a poster and a mod.

No sooner did a Brasa Roja open on Pulaski and Adison than the one on Irving near Kimball closed. In its place is something called "Carnitas La Esquinta." I don't suppose it's a huge loss; strictly speaking, Irving Park didn't really need 4 Brasa Rojas/El Llano locations.

Curiously, the window banner at El Llano at Irving and Elston indicates the Irving and Kimball location is still open, as does their website. Does anyone know if this La Esquinita place is somehow affiliated with the El Llano-Roja empire? Or maybe this is a reincarnation of the "La Esquinita Boricula" that used to be on the 3500 block of Montrose?

Chicago’s Home of Chicken and Waffles, which currently operates two restaurants in Chicago and Oak Park, is expected to open its new Evanston location Jan. 23.... "

The parking spaces in front were marked as private property, no parking, cars would be towed. Yes, even though the building has been vacant for years. So what is being lost is spaces that looked like parking but were never available for parking (at least, not since the building was used by the Department of Employment Security or Oak Street Market, both many years ago).

Parking options in the vicinity include on-street parking (some metered, some not; meters are strictly enforced), a metered lot next door to the building to the north, and a high-rise parking garage two blocks east on Davis.

Hi- I live in Evanston, only two blocks from where this BBQ/pizza place is going in, and yes, parking is strictly enforced there. The parking spaces on the side of the restaurant are permit only. The ones further North are metered.

I believe that the unemployment office moved out of there maybe 2 1/2 years ago. Before I got my computer, I used to go over there sometimes to use their computers, and my computer is three years old. When the unemployment office was there, those 7 spaces were the only parking for that building, and there was a whole lot more traffic in and out of the building, than there will be when this
restaurant opens up. One thing I noticed today though, is that across from the Evanston post office on Davis, the meters have been covered up, and the parking spaces are permit only. I don't know why. Thanks, Nancy
