I'll add to the chorus of thank you's to Jefe, his pre-ordering the highlights was brilliant and the addition of the oysters, millionaire fried rice and hot and sour soup gave a real sense of what this place can do. I've been paying too much attention to Tony Hu's restaurants and haven't been trying enough other places, it made me remember there's much to explore in Chinatown.
The highlights for me were the shellfish, really well prepared with a deft touch that assured nothing was overcooked. The squab suffered a different fate, it was sadly overdone, but even then I could taste the flavor and plan to try it again. Sometimes I find really large oysters to be tough, but these had a lovely creamy taste complimented by the ginger and scallions. The millionaire fried rice was amazing, I was going to skip this dish to conserve stomach space, but when everyone around me was raving about it I had to try it. It had a wonderful creamy taste with a seafood funk from a generous helping of dried shrimp on top.
As JoelF so eloquently already put it the true highlight was enjoying the meal with like minded LTHers. The conversation and beverages both flowed, what a lovely evening.
