Chiditarod IX (2014) is March 1st.

    from 2013:
Chiditarod VIII - Registration opens January 15th / Race is on March 2nd

This is an awesome shopping cart food drive/race/pub crawl.

Attrill and I have been doing it for the last few years. He brings a grill cart, I volunteer to help out however I can.

We'd love to have more LTH involvement.

Team Hobo-Q is entering it's 5th year, and this year we're building a rig that includes a vertical smoker and a gas grill for crisping things up. Our general concept is a Tiki Bar, and the food we'll be serving will all be based on the concept of a classic Pupu platter (chicken Yakitori, pork Char Siu, etc....). All food we cook is free, and if you mention LTH we'll give you a free drink too! (or you can just ask for one, we'll be handing them out).

Anyways! It starts a little after noon next Saturday, and the start is a wonderful thing to behold (start is at Wolcott and Grand). We'll start at Phyllis' and then move on to Club Foot, and finish up at Bottom Lounge. I'll be announcing stops via twitter (@attrill). Our rig looks ugly now, but it should be a thing a beauty by Saturday:

Just getting involved in events here at LTH. Looking for things to do with fellow foodies and this looks like a blast. I won't embarrass myself or any of you with entering a cart (too late anyway) but wondering if showing up and hanging out with the group is permitted?
    Looks like a great time!

    Moxie,
Please feel free to come and hang out with us. We take our time and mostly just hang out cooking food and sharing with others.

What's the best place and time to hook up (and for those of us who don't get out often enough - how will we recognize the LTH contingent)?

We will have a tiki theme this year. One cart has two grills mounted on it the other is a tiki bar. They connect, so we take up a large foot print. We have been doing the event for a long time, so most people can direct you to hobo q as well. I will be tweeting location and updates from @pinchspice and Attrill will be doing the same from @attrill.

Facebook friend, Mekons chanteuse, and liaison dangerous Sally Timms has a video of this years start on her Facebook page. Hopefully some of you are able to check it out and catch the fever.

We had another great year and were very happy to see Moxie at Phyllis'!

Our Tiki theme worked out pretty well, we joined two carts together and decorated them with a lot of bamboo and palms.

Our cooking set up was a vertical smoker and a gas grill for crisping food up.

    Image

The gas grill gave us some problems through the course of the day, but everything worked out well in the end. We cooked about 120 chicken legs, along with 10 or so chicken breasts and 30 thighs in a variety of styles (Yakitori, Vindaloo, Jamaican Jerk...).

    Image

I did one thing I wish I had done more of - a pork shoulder Char Siu that we served on rice buns. I also grilled some pineapple to add to it, and it was really great! Sort of like a westernized Chinese/Pupu platter version of Al Pastor.

    Image

All in all, it was a great, great day!

If anyone is interested in doing this next year, especially if you want to set up a team, just let me know and I can help you out. We've actually got some extra cart frames kicking around I could give to someone.

    Chris-

This looks like a blast. Some friends and I discussed doing it this year, but never got fully motivated. Maybe next year...

Once again we will be doing Chiditarod - but with a stripped down focus to match the "polar vortex" of this winter. The start will be around Grand and Wolcott at Noon on Saturday (you'll see the crowd if you get there).

We will have food (sausage on a schwenker), but our main focus will be on providing warmth through a big mobile fire pit and cocktails for everyone. I've been spending a lot of time this week experimenting with the the bitters from the recent LTH bitters exchange, and will definitely be incorporating a few into our drink offerings. More details to come!
