I'm hesitant to describe the event I attended this past Saturday because I'm not sure where it will next take place.
This past week the American Cheese Society had its annual conference and award event in Madison.
Saturday was the day to sample all the cheeses that had been entered, and after members got first call, members of the public were allowed to enter the sampling area at 7:00, for $55 per person. It was barely publicized and only about 30 members of the public did so.

We got there and my jaw hit the floor as I saw a convention sized room filled with between 500 and a 1000 cheeses to sample from all over the U.S. and Canada. It was divided into 12 or 13 tables by category (e.g. soft ripened, flavored, goat, etc.). Some tables had 30-40 cheeses, larger tables had far more. Each table also featured the blue ribbon winner in the center.

If that wasn't enough, there were about 30 vendors or related products such as chacuterie and crackers offering samples.

If this appeals to you, check their web site to see where the 2014 event will be held.

    Hi,

From whatever it matters, this event was listed on the Event's board here. How did you learn of it?

This event was in Chicago some years ago with a fabulous sale the day after of all sorts of cheese.

If I were not in Ohio, I certainly would have gone. While I have yet to attend one, I knew from friends who attended it is an outstanding event.

    Regards,

Amazing that it was posted on this board! Is there nothing this board doesn't know?
We got there because our friend in Madison spotted a tiny announcement in the local paper.
I think they do virtually no marketing because the event is for its members, who are generally industry people.

    Hi,

I was reminded about this event from a friend who works for the Wisconsin Milk Board.

I am glad you made it and reinforced once more my regret I cannot be two places at the same time.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
