If those who are discussing the rents/landlord issue want to start a separate thread (so that they can more easily locate it in the future, via a search), they can do so. If they do, we'll move all the applicable posts from this thread over to the new one. If not, the digression can remain here.

Why Restaurants Close: Landlords

Didn't they move, not close their business?

The three partners behind Earth & Ocean, an “eclectic American” restaurant in Mount Prospect, have signed a lease for the space that was Maison Brasserie, a fine-dining spot near Millennium Park that closed in March.

By all accounts, they will be back open in at most a few days--is this really something to be noted as a "closing"???

We'd like to share some news, Brando’s has decided to close its doors.
One thing in life that is guaranteed is change. While a very hard decision, it is a positive one. Gianni (co-owner) will continue to dedicate himself to the union pipefitting career he has worked so hard to build and Brian (co-owner) will open a new restaurant called “Bubba’s Place” located on Ogden and Ridgeland in Berwyn.
Thanks to each and every one of you for the continued support throughout the years. We are extremely proud of all the stomachs we satisfied and all the support we were able to provide to local businesses, schools and churches as well as those less fortunate, donating hundreds of meals to those who were in need.
The wonderful memories and solid friendships will continue on, just in new spaces and places. Make sure to stop by Bubba’s Place in a few weeks to grab a bite and say Hello!

Why would the city want to do that? The city is obligated to close a business that has no license, but after the business gets that license why would the city try to keep the business closed?

I can confirm this opening date, I spoke with the staff at Hoosier Mama this morning. The new store will open Saturday the 9th, and there are facilities for baking on the premises.
I hope my coronary arteries can stand it!
