On a recent sunny but frigid January Sunday morning, I stopped in at Roeser's Bakery for one of their
magnificent
Custard Walnut Coffee Cake. Seeing that it was early (7:30am), I felt fairly confident the object of my desires
would "still" be sitting there; unsold, awaiting my purchase!
(remarkably, they only produce one of these bad Boys per day)
Standing in front of the counter, stood the stores only customer, an attractive, black pencil jeans clad
young blond, with a variety of piercing(s). As her confusion of choosing from the delectable selections grew,
she kindly offered me the chance to purchase my Custard Coffee Cake (waiting for me, patiently) ahead of her.
As I waited for the clerk to wrap my purchase and "fix" a coffee, I asked her what caused her to be up
and at a Humboldt Park bakery at this early hour.
She replied that she needed to pick up some goodies for her coworkers @
Publican.Intresting I thought- thinking that they could easily provide their own "fuel" there, in house.
So- when I enquired did she "work in "The Front of The House" or "The Back of The House""?, she responded sheepishly, that she
did work in the kitchen- as a
Baker!!!
Man- what a testimonial to
Roesers fine assortment of baked goods and doughnuts!
Here was a baker, at one of the areas finest Restaurants, picking up bakery and doughnuts for the chefs and cooks
at The Publican.
Made me wonder - what a interesting Post that would make- "chefs& bakers, and where they shop".....
Too bad, they weren't able to try
"my" Custard Walnut Coffee Cake!
My assistantant and I did though!
yummmmmmmmmm!
