On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (May 10, 11, and 12th), Peterson Garden Project, a 501(c)3 community gardening organization, will be hosting a fundraising Plant & Bake Sale at the PGP Learning Center at 4642 N. Francisco (by the Brown Line stop). From 10am-4pm each day, PGP will be selling a terrific array of plants, as well as gardening tools and resources to help you get your edible garden off to a great start! There will also be a delicious selection of baked goods to make sure no one leaves hungry (or with their pockets too heavy :D ).

Which is where I hope, my fellow LTH'ers can help! I know a lot of you are very talented chefs and cooks, so I'm hoping some of you might be interested in contributing to this important event for a not-for-profit doing some great things to bring community gardening and education to Chicagoland. We expect to have about 2,000 people come through the sale within those three days so we are seeking bakers to make 7-10 dozen small things such as cookies, bars, etc.--either you can package these for sale or we will do it after drop off. We also welcome contributions of whole pies, loaves of bread, mini cakes, etc. We will be happy to share business logos, cards, etc.

If you are interested in contributing, please let me know and I will forward you additional details. Your contribution is fully tax deductible and a letter will be provided to you after the event. Please check out our website http://www.petersongarden.org/for more information on the organization if you aren't familiar with us.

    thanks everyone!!

    Jennifer

that's because it's a placeholder--they haven't put up the details for this year's sale yet. I just wanted people to be able to learn more about the organization itself if they're interested. I'm in charge of the bake sale so I'm trying to get a head start getting the word out regarding the baked goods we'll need, even though they haven't started advertising the details of the event yet.

    hope that helps!

One last thread bump for anyone wanting to help support community gardening education and opportunities in Chicago!

We are seeking professional and talented amateur bakers to contribute donations for this weekend's (May 10-12) Plant and Bake Sale, being held at Peterson Garden Project's Learning Center at 4642 N. Francisco (adjacent to the Francisco Brown Line Station). If there's a recipe you love or one you've been wanting to try out, now would be a great time!!

Also, for anyone seeking plant starts, here is the link for the list of what will be offered. http://wecangrowit.org/?p=1218 All are from Seedsavers.

Hope to see some of you this weekend!

Seedlings will be $3-$5. They will also be selling Seedsaver seeds and a variety of other gardening items. I believe credit cards will be accepted.

    Hi everyone,

I am reaching out again to see if any of you would be interested in donating some tasty baked goods to Peterson Garden Project's annual Plant Sale/ Bake Sale Fundraiser, happening May 9, 10, 11th at the PGP Learning Center (4642 N. Francisco Ave.)

For those of you who contributed last year, a huge THANK YOU!! We hope you are interested in participating again this year. As we did the past few years, we are soliciting donations of baked goods--either sweet or savory--that we can sell. Last year's bake sale raised a substantial amount of money for PGP, with the money going to, among other things, the planting of the Grow-to-Give beds that each garden sponsors to donate fresh vegetables to a local organization that provides food to their community's needy.

I'm hoping that you might be interested in contributing something--either yourself or via any friends, colleagues or family who are professional or accomplished amateur chefs, bakers and/or cooks! If you have a good relationship with any bakeries and/or restaurants whom you think would be supportive of our efforts, feel free to ask them if they’d be interested in participating, or let me know and I can contact them. We are looking for items that are shelf stable since we don't have refrigeration, in whatever quantity you can provide. Last year’s bakers donated 10-12 dozen each for smaller items, although some also donated pies, cakes, bread loaves, etc.--we would love anything you think would be appropriate.

Donations are tax deductible since Peterson Garden Project is a 501(c)3 and we will be happy to provide a tax letter if needed. If you can drop off your donation by Thurs, May 8th that would be great, however we can arrange for it to be picked up if need be. If you think you can participate, please let me know, and also include what you will be baking.

If you have any questions, or to coordinate a donation drop off/pick up, please let me know via PM or email me at jberman1130@yahoo.com.

    Thank you!

Hi all--just bumping this to remind everyone that the PGP plant sale will be held Friday -Sunday of Mother's Day weekend, May 9-11.

I am still hoping for a few donations from LTHers for the bake sale--proceeds go towards our Grow-to-Give program (Volunteer-run program providing fresh produce donations from each Peterson Garden Project site to local food pantries or nutrition programs chosen by the community) and the organization's "Veg-ucation" programs, as well as scholarships for gardeners who can't afford the participation fee.

Anyone interested in baking, just send me a PM or email (jberman1130@yahoo.com).

    thanks!!

Hope to see a lot of folks at the plant sale--everything heirloom and grown just for PGP this year. If you need the location or details, they're on the website.

We are still taking donations for the bake sale as well--if you want to make something to donate--both sweet and savory items are still needed--just pm or email me.

    thanks!!!

The baked goods were a huge success, we have to replienish tomorrow. A big thanks to all LTHers who came through with donations and just a reminder we'll be there through Sunday.

A quick note in the hope that we can generate some interest and help with this:

I spent a bunch of hours shoveling piles of dirt at The Peterson Garden NEIU Ground location (on St. Louis just north of Foster).

There's still quite a bit of work to do and they are asking for volunteers today starting @ 9am. Just show up, grab a shovel or wheelbarrow and help to get this great project in gear. Thanks!
