Mods, if there is an existing thread for this place, please relocate, I couldn't find via searches.

I had wanted to try Flour and Stone for awhile now but rarely find myself in the nearby area around mealtime. Yesterday I was in the Streeterville area about 1.5 hours ahead of a 6pm event, so time to try.

You can view Flour and Stone's menu, I ordered the classic.

Decent sausage, ok pepperoni (ok not quite a Chicago classic), very good/bright sauce, edge crust ok, bottom inner crust quite crisp.

There is something to be said for letting a pie cool down before eating, I was a bit hungry so dug in too soon, all hot temps filled my mouth. However once it had cooled a bit I dug in with gusto, I really enjoyed the pizza, especially the sauce.

It isn't something I'm going to rush back for but was very pleased and probably would stop by if in the area again.

I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

I tried Flour & Stone earlier tonight. Brooklyn style? I don't know. But I was pretty impressed with the margherita pizza - flavorful crust with some nice blistered bubbles, excellent tomato sauce, and a great ratio of cheese and fresh basil.

I was far less impressed with my friend's pizza which had olives, pepperoni and artichoke. The pepperoni itself was bland, and his crust was totally different from mine. Whereas mine had all the earmarks of a hand-stretched crust, his was largely flat with little blistering, and almost appeared to have been rolled.

In any event, if I was back in the area I'd certainly give the margherita another go as it was quite respectable. Not sure I'd go beyond that. But like Willie, I was very impressed with the sauce . . . one of the better ones I've had I'd say.

This place was the subject of a restaurant rescue type show (don't know the actual name) with Ann Burrell. I only watched a bit of it (not my kind of show), but the premise was three terrible online reviews were hurting business so Ann Burrell comes in, fixes the problems, and the online reviewers return to try to new stuff.

Review Rescue, I saw the show and it looked like a pilot episode, just awkward at times.

I was there 2 wks ago and I have a mixed feeling about it. The pizza itself was pretty good but the place itself is a tad odd

    Some of my observation....

Take away boxes were stacked all over behind the counter. Can't they clean this up a bit? Are they trying to be just a take out place (??). The door to supplies room and the food storage were wide open, I can see all the cans and boxes everywhere. One of the guys working there has his pants down like a gangster, not every appetizing to see what kind of boxers he's wearing when I'm trying to eat

All of these would have been fine I guess, had it been in different neighborhood (??)

    Just an odd vibe...for me
