The Pitmaster dinners I've been to have been fantastic but I thought last night's was the best yet. Tortilla chips dusted with jalapeno (ad maybe habanero) powder were delicious and spicy as hell, but cooled by the wonderful Texas caviar (like a bean/tomato salsa). Armadillo eggs were Italian sausage/Mexican chorizo combo filled with a cheese/sour cream/jalapeno mixture and smoked. They were also excellent, and what I really appreciated was that they had just the right amount of chorizo and smoke, where too much chorizo or smoke would have overwhelmed the other flavors.

Of course, the star of the show was the phenomenal ribeye, which was served with beans and fried okra. Again, smoke played a prominent role without overwhelming the other flavors. And the ribeye was served with an awesome onion/jalapeno jam. Hoosier Mama pecan pie for dessert. Tons of delicious food, and yes, leftovers to boot. Gary and staff really knocked it out of the park last night. If you really want to experience the very best of Barn & Company, pay attention to these posts. And at $60, which includes cocktails and beer, a great value . . . particularly considering I had a second dinner tonight from the leftovers.

Someone at my table had a big, bright, shiny new iPhone and took pictures, hopefully they came out and he'll post, I was too busy eating.

I also have to echo BR's opinion of what a great deal this is, I too took food home and got a second meal out of it. The ribeye was one of the most flavorful pieces of meat I've had. The fat had a subtle smoky flavor enhanced by Gary's rub, the taste didn't overpower the meat but added a subtle undertone that enhanced it, complimented by the onion/jalapeno jam it was perfect. I'll be thinking about this meal for a while. All that and I got to meet the lovely Pat Brickhouse.

My first bites were of the well-rubbed patches of fat surrounding the meat, just wonderful. The meat was also delicious, but oh man, that fat...

Well, that would be me. Unfortunately, it was pretty dark and I just don't think the pictures are worth posting ... they do neither Gary's cooking, nor my photography skills, any justice.
