Stopped here for dinner on my way to a Sox game this week and quite enjoyed it -- Moxee is a fairly new restaurant / brewpub in University Village whose menu is focused on seafood/Southern cuisine/smoked meats/comfort food, as well as craft beer, including a few beers that they will be brewing on-site once they get all the necessary permits -- they said that right now they're having their beers brewed in Saugatuck for the time being.

My brother and I were in a hurry to get to the game, so we stuck with the sandwiches. I had a pulled pork with a Carolina-style sauce and my brother had the brisket. The corn bread that came first was pretty perfect, and I thought the nice texture/chew and taste of the pulled pork & bun really hit the spot, as did the bottle of spicy/sweet BBQ sauce that I daubed onto half my sandwich. Portion size was generous. I had a side of steamed spinach and cole slaw, both were on point. My brother said his brisket was great. My wife had the shrimp and grits "small plate" which was actually enough for a full meal, which she thought was flavorful and rich.

We tried the Rathmandu pale ale, one of their house beers. Nice.

The space is pretty spacious (reminded us of the downtown Wishbone space) and clean and well-decorated. The music ran the gamut from indie to rock to '60s jazz.

This is a solid option for the area, especially compared to the more college-y places on Halsted like Morgan's, and if you're coming from downtown to the south Loop, Pilsen, Bridgeport, etc. it's well situated.

"You can really taste the tree in the meat," said a friend who knows from barbecue. Intrigued, I checked out Moxee this week (free parking in the Maxwell Street garage for the month of December, by the way).

This is some really good stuff. And I'll start with the coleslaw, which has cumin, cayenne, jalapeno, and cilantro, and the cornbread with citrus zest, and the handcut fries. No shortcuts here or on the rest of the menu, featuring house-fried tortilla chips, planked salmon, three sisters hash, fresh salsas, etc.

The meats come pre-sauced (at least on the sandwiches). Pulled pork was thoroughly perfumed with green hickory, barky, and excellent, in a high tier in the city. Brisket was probably a holdover from the previous night but one could detect flashes of brilliance. Moxee was really concepted as a complement to the Mad Mouse brewery (just rolling now, with two selections, and nicely selected guests), and I wasn't prepared to be impressed by the kolsch, but it was pleasant, light and easy-drinking and went really well with the food. I hope whomever is in the kitchen (kudos there, really) lasts to match the brew program.

Moxee is under the same ownership as Prairie Moon in Evanston. And Moxee has a website. Just don't click on the address there looking for directions; doing so takes you to a map of the town in Washington State called Moxee. :)

It appears to be browser-dependent. It goes to Washington State in IE10, but to the correct place in Google Chrome.

Not to derail but out of curiosity I opened IE for the first time since I don't know when (11 not 10, though) and it also took me to the right place (as did Chrome). Maybe a 10 glitch or possibly something in your cache.
