So at the last Dessert Exchange, it was revealed that another regular also enjoys having themed exchanges. Hooray! Theme-lovers unite!

I believe we discussed this numerous times but I don't recall that we actually did it. So the theme is Childhood Favorites. I would love to hear the stories behind the desserts you bring. Is there something grandma always had on hand? Did mom bake you a special cake for your birthday? Or maybe you're still annoyed that Girl Scout cookies ain't quite the same and want to recreate them.
As usual, if you don't want to participate in the theme, as long as you bring some form of sugar you're welcome in my house. ;)

I live in Irving Park. I can comfortably seat 7. After that, I'll start a waiting list.

I will make a light supper with some sort of vegetarian option, and beverages. Bring one dessert, no doubling required.

All levels of dessert experience are welcome, because often participants bring desserts made for the first time. We are the best audience for trying out something new. If it failed in your opinion, bring it anyway because we can learn from your experience and maybe it is not as bad as you think.

Bring containers to take your share home. It is a good idea to bring a couple, one for those needing refrigeration and one for those than don't. Or if you're like me (who hasn't changed since she was wee!) and want to keep everything in separate containers so they're not touching.

I am in. Childhood desserts weren't necessarily good. Hmmm, I may do an apple pie inspired by my mum ( she never made her own crust). Is your oven available?
And yesterday I totally recalled how we would scheme for my mum's bread pudding. She baked it in shallow pans so it was cut and served as bars.

But what resonated with me was a no bake cheesecake with tart green grapes on top in a store bought graham cracker crust when you put up the theme when I thought of favorite childhood desserts. My next thought was mom's deep dish apple pie, again store bought crust, and then Miss Boston's pound cake.

The thing that came up with me was an angel food cake, out of the box, with chocolate frosting, out of the can. Feeling there's no way I can do boxed stuff for lth, and daunted by the prospect of doing it properly, I opt out. If I can come up with something edible, I'll send it w/ d j.

Cathy2, I called my mum. There was a kitchen re-model last fall so I hope she can find the recipe. I think I have found some close one's online so I will update as I can.

    Oh Cathy2!

And eureka! Recipe found, picture snapped and sent via text ( pretty good for a non-tech savvy octogenarian). So I will make my mum's no-bake cheesecake for this Childhood themed exchange, appropriately topped with green grapes.

Please put me on the waitlist. It is a great idea. My favorite dessert that my mother made was a wonderful noodle pudding. Oh, it was soooo good. Some of the noodles were crisp. Some were tender. There were lovely raisins.
I haven't made it for years. When it is done right, it is very fine.

    Hi,

I will make a rolled cake dessert. When I was a kid, getting an ice cream filled rolled cake was a treat. I may fill it with something else, perhaps whipped cream. It is something I really liked as a kid.

    Hi,

My regrets will make someone happy: I have to cancel my participation.

I will be in lovely Fort Wayne, Indiana with my sister. I thought she had begged off, then learned she was available.

I will bring a rolled cake to the next dessert exchange.

sorry you're sick, ava. i had the flu for 2 weeks and now, 2 weeks later, still feel under the weather. it's been a rough winter for the flu.

i plan to make chocolate pudding- not the jello cooked pudding i made and loved as a child; a better version with a special twist....
