Are you kidding me?? $2.87 worth of fresh salmon was enough to feed two adults and a toddler?!?!![]()
How much was it per pound? $2.49??

Coming of age in the mid-to-late 1970's, for us Jack's was the last stop of the evening (the other was Gold Coin on Dempster) in the wee morning hours before heading home, maybe to sober up a little over an oliveburger and a cup of coffee, certainly to ruminate over our dates that we had just dropped off. The conversation was wandering but pertinent & the waitresses always understood the importance of these late-night meetings. Good times.

This news breaks my heart. Jack's was an integral part of my childhood in so many ways. One of my Dad's best friends was the co-owner of Jack's from the beginning in 1965 (Jerry "Rip" Rubin who many of you will remember well) and at one point, my Dad was considering buying Jack out. We were treated like royalty there. Back in the day, if there was a line or wait, we were seated first as if we had a special reservation (which I guess in a way, we did). It was so cool to run into friends and family there all the time. 95% of the time I would order breakfast no matter when I was in there. I also spent many late nights there. I even met Jackie Mason there around 2AM one time. I still go about once a month, but it's sad how run down it became. Now it all makes sense as to why things were left as they are.

Seafood City looks pretty cool - thinking Vangie and Shay will be excited - at least worth a visit thats for sure.

It's definitely worth a visit, but my experience with the store weren't great. I used to work in Las Vegas, which has a Seafood City. I started going there because they offered a large seafood section, e.g. lots of whole fish, shellfish, etc. My experiences were mixed to negative, however. Worst smell of all the Asian markets in Vegas (far worse than any I've been to in Chicago), and a nasty bout of sickness from some yellow tail snapper turned me off of the place.
Then again, a brand new SC might not suffer from any of these problems. I'll certainly give it a shot.

I have never tried this pizza, though there once was a big fan who regularly posted here. I cannot wait to try this whenever it materializes.

I could have sworn that Aurelio's had a location near Clark and Fullerton years ago, so I don't think they are complete strangers to the north side, though they have been gone absent from the north side for many years.

I still don't understand why people cheer when a restaurant they don't like closes. If you don't like a place, fine, don't go there. Its existence doesn't hurt you and is a benefit to those who enjoy its cuisine, as well as those for whom it provides employment. Those benefits disappear when it closes - and there are no guarantees that its replacement isn't a fast-food chain, a superfluous dry cleaner, or a vacant storefront.

He would definitely have regrets if it turned into a damned Subway, although that won't happen as there's already one just down the block

I do. Numerous Facebook posts along with my dad confirming the information with the cashier the other day.

Thanks, Dave, you beat me to it. I had 2nd-hand solid information along the same line, Scott. I know better than to post rumors.
