Hi- I saw something I think on TV this last week, that predicted that since McDonald's has started serving breakfast 24/7, that the price of eggs might go up due to more demand. I have a hard time believing that people at McDonald's will want to order breakfast in the evening. What does everybody else think? Wjem I was at Valli Produce for their one day sale yesterday, they had regular eggs on sale for $1.99 a dozen, and Eggland's Best on sale for $2.99, and yes they were selling some eggs. Thanks, Nancy

Yes you can get your egg mcmuffin all day now at McDonald's. This story I saw on tv recently was concerned that now since McDonald's is serving breakfast all day, that their is going to be an even bigger demand for eggs, and that the price of eggs will rise considerably as a result.

I've always found the 10:30 am cutoff for Egg McMuffins (fantastic invention, as I've commented before) an annoyance, so expanded McDonalds breakfast hours are good news for me.

I believe any change to the price of eggs is going to be linked to the impact of the avian flu much more than it would to McDonalds serving all day breakfast. I'm sure the MickeyDee's aspect makes for a better sound bite on the news, though.

I remember similar "sky is falling" types of predictions for cherries when McDonald's introduced cherry hand pies back in the 80's. Of course, those fears never materialized. Kman is right, any price increase for eggs is much more likely to be caused by market conditions other than the fact that Little Tommy wants an eggamuff for lunch.

On the other hand, toooo many published articles on how great bbq'd brisket is, and ouf! up goes the price of brisket.
True story, or so a couple of butchers have informed me...

Well first of all, once they made the changes to serve breakfast at the same time as the regular menu there was really no reason not to do it all the time. Beyond that, there are a lot of people who do shift work that would appreciate having breakfast on their schedule. Also, if you are hungry and need a quick meal and are near a McD you can now have the one thing they make that is "real" the round egg. Finally, you can add a round egg to anything for about $.80, so if you like a fried egg on your burger, that's an extra $.80 for McD's.

Hi- I remember when McDonald's started offering cherry pies in the 80's, and my Father who was on the Michigan tart cherry commission at the time was overjoyed about it. Most years you don't make a ton of money raising sour cherries because nobody makes chery pies from scratch any more. I know that somebody in the Traverse City area has come out with meat products that contain sour cherries such as sausage. The market has also increased since sour cherry juice has been promoted as an elixir for gout.

I always substitute a round egg on the bacon egg & cheese biscuit with no extra charge. Makes a world of difference! Unfortunately, from what I've heard, they still only offer biscuit sandwiches during regular breakfast hours.

Breakfast being the only thing I really like at McDonalds, I love the all-day option. I can't say I'll have it too often for dinner but it's a fine fit for late-morning and late-night situations.

McDonalds fries their eggs in a circular form so the don't hang over the edges of the muffin. Their term for the result is a "round egg".

Cute commercial. But I wonder why, if they have round egg and round ham, they still have square cheese??!

    Just curious...

You've never had an Egg McMuffin?!? My goodness!

I personally think it's on the short list of cleverest fast food inventions ever. All you McD's haters out there, flame on, I don't care.

Some people will get an order of two hash brown patties and insert them into the Egg McMuffin. I haven't tried that yet, but they're both tasty products, together or separate.

I say all this as someone who hardly ever eats fast food, not because I make a point of avoiding it but because I don't drive much.

The only way an Egg McMuffin could be better than it is would be if the English muffin halves were dripping with melted butter like the ones I have at home, although I realize that would not be ideal for eating in the car.

it's true i'm not a mcdonalds fan.. i get zero pleasure from eating a burger from there (and when my dad was dying, i'd bring him burgers from mcdonalds on a regular basis, and 1 for myself, too, so i do know what they taste like). though i do enjoy the occasional whopper. but now i'm planning to try one, since some of you seem to actually enjoy them... i like the concept, and i love english muffins.... i'll report back.

The primary fault of the round egg is that it is overcooked. While I know a perfectly runny yolk is not practical , a touch of runniness would be a lot better than the almost hard boiled consistency that is normal.

Every once in a while they mess up and you end up with a slightly runny egg. :D

Actually, justjoan, it's a very clever version of Eggs Bennie--as we call them up here in Montréal! The bread is decent, the ham is decent, the egg is real, it's the usual plastic cheese, and there's a sort of a Hollandaise-y sauce on it. It's probably the best item MickyD sells. Give it a chance! In the aeropuerto at oh-dark-thirty, it can't be beat! :)

Back in the 1970s, and to this day, you could get a Breakfast Jack all day at Jack-In-The-Box.

Bear in mind that drinking heavily at lunch was widely acceptable in the '70's, so jones-ing for mid-afternoon Jack in the Box was the logical next step.

egg mcmuffins are too dry. maybe if the egg was over easy instead of over rockhard they'd be more palatable.
