Rick Tramonto, a James Beard Award-winning chef who left Streeterville restaurant Tru in 2010 to open Restaurant R'evolution in New Orleans with chef John Folse, is planning a homecoming. Tramonto and Folse have leased a large, two-level space in the OneEleven luxury apartment tower in the Loop, where they expect to open a second Restaurant R'evolution.

Wow. That's too bad. I really enjoyed my one and only meal there.

There's a building permit issued yesterday for a new Devil Dawgs in Wicker Park at 1431 N Milwaukee (former Eyeporium Gallery). Guessing it should be open in the next few months.

Maxim's in the Loop (20 N Clark St) has closed. Butcher paper in the windows with a sign that says Maxim's is closed. Not the best diner (or even the the third best) in the Loop, but did have a "nice" divey bar in basement.

I wouldn't claim it was great, but it might have been the best--by default! Meaning, full-menu, sit-down, diner-type places are dropping like flies everywhere, but especially in the Loop, where fewer and fewer people have time (sadly) for anything but carryout. What are the three actual diners that still exist in the Loop (bounded by the river on the north and west) that you would rate higher?

I'd say the Diner in the Pittsfield building (Washington and Wabash) is better. That's about it for me. I'm also in the demo that doesn't sit down and eat at diners for lunch, plus my job responsibilities have changed so I'm lucky if I get 2 lunches a month in the Loop. Petro's on Randolph is competent. There's that place on Monroe and Dearborn that looks intriguing. I think there are more near the SW corner of the Loop, but have never explored over there. Then again, I'm not sure any are even open anymore :)

We ate there last night, since it was nice out we sat in the patio area. Food was good, menu seems a little smaller than at the old location. I always liked that patio space when Dinotto was there, it looks kind of barren right now but hopefully they'll put up some decorations before too long. One thing I wish they hadn't done is remove that 8 foot, ivy covered fence between the patio area and the sidewalk that Dinotto had, it was pretty good at muffling the traffic noises and provided privacy from people walking by.

Another food hall and market is coming to the Loop. The yet-to-be-named 10,500-square-foot enterprise will be located street-level at 205 W. Wacker Drive. Jonathan Fox of 3Sixty Dining Intelligence is a partner in the venture. Fox owns Osteria La Madia and Firecakes Donuts and has developed restaurants for the Wit Hotel and Weber Grill, among others.

The Last Pit Stop on Lawrence Ave in Lincoln Square has been closed since Friday 7/8. Nothing in the cooler, dirty tables visible from the window, the signage with hours gone, are all a bad sign. It's too bad since they did a great breakfast :(

No, this is terrible news! I really hope the Chinatown location will start serving the vegetarian mushroom ramen then, that was only sold at Strings 2. Strings still has the best Ramen in the city IMO.

Was walking through downtown Highland Park this past weekend and there was signage for a new Tanoshii Sushi Mike's there. Didn't jot down the address but want to say it was Sheridan and Park. Did quick search online but couldn't find anything. Might be some time still but am very excited at the prospect of a Tanoshii in walking distance!

They were working on the interior when walked by today, definitely some time away. The address is

They're apparently facing an 80% rent increase at their present location. Makes me wonder if this isn't a bargaining chip and/or exit strategy rather than a genuine desire to operate two locations.

Appears that Jay and Maria Feldman couldn't make a go of it with Margie's. Stopped by on Wednesday to find it all locked up and deserted. Phone not working. It's a shame as I believe that they put their heart and soul into this place. I felt the food was great my favorites being the deep fried polish an exceptional beef sandwich and the thin cut fries cooked in olive oil. I feel they would have been successful in a different location.
