I think the double burger at Shake Shack is great for those that can't decide if they would like their burger rare or well done. :D

The one I had in Paramus NJ was unexceptional. A decent bun, no crisp or char to the patty, and a bad tomato for late summer.

With their custard emphasis, I'd have to compare them to Culver's, and at that, they fail. I'll go for a mushroom swiss butterburger in an instant; at several bucks more the Shake Shack isn't drawing me back.

Is it fair to compare them to Schoop's or Redhot Ranch? Probably not from what I'm seeing.

11:00AM Last Friday the line was out the door and around the corner. I walked across the street and dined at Eatily.

I have no idea how, but Postmates (delivery service) had shake shack available for delivery on Saturday.

I visited Shake Shack yesterday. Virtually no wait at 1:30 on a rainy Monday afternoon (3 people in line ahead of me). I thought the double shake burger was very good. A single might not have been enough meat to balance the sandwich, but the double was perfect. Nice, flavorful sandwich with surprisingly good tomatoes for this time of year. I didn't taste the shake sauce separately, but I know I detected a hit of garlic in there. I skipped the fries thanks to the comments in this thread, and those I saw on other people's trays reinforced that decision. They really don't look like anything special. Also had a black and white malt, which was good, but undersized for the price they charge.

From the Trib's website . . . Shake Shack files for IPO

Shake Shack, the upscale burger joint started by restaurateur Danny Meyer, hopes to raise as much as $100 million in an initial public offering.

Many industry watchers expected that Shake Shack, which opened its first Chicago shop in November, would list shares. The company said it plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "SHAK."

Reads like a press release. Touting the food-service crinkle-cut fries? Weak. Edzo's it ain't.

. . .whereupon it will be immediately overrun with Niles North HS students - the campus a five-minute stoll from the proposed site of Shake Shack, on the far west side of Old Orchard. Yikes.

The proposed site is part of the space currently occupied by Talbot's, which is on the east side of Old Orchard (directly east of Marshall... I mean, east of Macy's). I doubt that it will be any more overrun with high school kids than Frontera Fresco or Johnny Rocket's is - which, basically, it isn't, at all.

I used to work for Westfield, in the regional corporate office at OO. The site for Shake Shack is on the WEST side of the mall. Check the site map.

I doubt that Shake Shack will be any more overrun with high school kids than Frontera Fresco or Johnny Rocket's now is - which, basically, neither is, all that much. OTOH if it's as overrun with adults as the currently-open location in River North already is, that could be a serious impediment to dining there.

EDIT - I was removing my previous post after verifying the correct location, as also noted in the previous post. (I was actually in OO a couple of hours ago and mistakenly thought I saw Talbot's elsewhere.) Mea culpa. But I still doubt that high school kids will be the problem with dining there - no more so than with the mobs at Shake Shack downtown.

The Windy City's second location of Danny Meyer's line-inducing chef-driven fast-casual burger chain opens on Thursday at 11 a.m., the chain announced this morning, on the ground floor of the renovated historic Chicago Athletic Association Hotel at 12 S. Michigan across from Millennium Park. The rest of the hotel opens tomorrow.

Looks like some possibly interesting options besides the Shack:

"Cindy's ... rooftop restaurant and open air terrace overlooking Millennium Park ...

"Cherry Circle Room, the historic, iconic restaurant space that has serviced the building for generations ...

"The Game Room ... deep cocktail culture ...

    "The Milk Room ... a prohibition-era whiskey bar ..."

Those bars in the CAA are Paul Mcgee joints, so they should be stellar.

I am eating at the one in Old Orchard now.

It is serviceable. Even in this mall setting I would not come back unless I wanted custard.

That is super rich and quite good.

I should've done Naf Naf, Lao Sze Chuan, or Akai Hana instead.

I have to disagree, the veggie "burger" mushroom cap is one of the worst meatless burger alternatives I've ever had. It's small, the stuffed cheese has this weird gelatinous quality, and the patty is more breading than mushroom.

I was there yesterday too - first visit ever to a Shake Shake. An errand dragged me to Old Orchard and landed me right there. I tried the Double Shack burger and it was fine. It wasn't the greatest representation of the style but it wasn't awful, either. I was miffed that getting it cooked anything less than medium-rare is not an option. The menu states "all burgers are cooked medium unless otherwise requested" but it doesn't mention that you can only request it to be cooked longer than that, not less. So, in that regard it's just another corporate-driven gray meat bummer. Whatever, it was fine, though I cannot imagine ever going out of my way for one in the future. Maybe I should have ordered the fried chicken sandwich instead. The crinkle-cut fries were decent and service, though inflexible on the burger doneness, was friendly enough.

I had the fried chicken a couple weeks ago when an errand dragged me to River North. Definitely the best thing on the Shake Shack menu when you factor in the price point being significantly lower than the burgers.
