Reading about Santiago's on the EOIC forum irresistibly made me think of Mofungo, legendary NYC band that included Robert Sietsema. Any others?

(Extra points if you know why I mentioned Sietsema.)

Meatloaf comes to mind, though he's just one person and not a band. And probably Hot Tuna. If we're counting candy as food, then that would also include the Starlight Mints and the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Bowling for Soup is a food-related activity, not a food, so I guess they're out. And surely no one would eat a Limp Bizkit.

Bread, Vanilla Fudge, Taco, Cracker... plus you've got a number named after fruits (The Cranberries, The Raspberries, Peaches, etc.) Plus you can count Cream, I suppose. Red Hot Chili Peppers? Or is that more ingredients than "foods" you're looking for? Flying Burrito Brothers?

One of the best bands ever.

    (Conference ...)

Often referred to as "the Burritos", so they are allowable!

Don't know if The Animals would qualify, or Pearl Jam, but I gotta believe that Smashing Pumpkins probably should. Then, if you wanna go back a few years, there are The Nutmegs and The Chiffons (as well as some truly obscure groups like Ace Kennedy and the Candies or The Chestnuts)....

    T-Bone Burnett

Don't know why you mentioned Sietsema, but his new book, "New York in a Dozen Dishes," is worth a read (I'm guessing most of us have had most of this dozen, though perhaps not in NYC).

And yeah, it's kinda surprising no local metal bands have named themselves, say, "Kumazzz".

Actually, I was thinking of electroclash solo artist Peaches, so I guess that doesn't qualify as a "band."

Oh, thought of another one: Green Jellö/Green Jellÿ, a novelty/comedy hard rock/metal band that had a charting single about the three little pigs. At least I think it charted--at any rate, it got play on hard rock stations here in Chicago circa about 1991? 1992?

Cake, unfortunately, are more than one-hit wonders ("The Distance," "Rock & Roll Lifestyle," "Short Skirt, Long Jacket," "Never There," and, maybe a little less popular, their cover of "I Will Survive." Oh, and "Sick of You." Most of those charted top 5 on the alternative charts, though only "The Distance" made the mainstream top 40--I'm a little surprised by that. Maybe that then qualifies as "one hit wonders," but from long-defunct Q101 and WXRT radio play, you'd never know it. "Never There" made it to the top of the alternative charts. I was in college in the mid-90s and I could just not get away from this band.)

Well if T-Bone Burnett qualifies then surely T-Bone Walker should as well. Humble Pie, The Lemonheads, Vanilla Ice, Wings. Stretching it a bit, Blue Oyster Cult.
