Tokens & Tankards opened recently in what was previously Ye Olde Town Inn in Mount Prospect. They've got a menu that's pretty basic with some gastropub nods and some geek-cute names (dragon's egg, gandalf's grilled cheese) , and a room full of pinball and video machines. Board games are available in the dining area, and it's generally a fun time.
Fried pickles were very tasty, served with a malt vinegar aioli. The serving is somewhat skimpy but pretty cheap ($5 for four large slices).
SueF had the Croque Madame, which is a very messy sandwich with a very runny fried egg on the top (I'd have sent it back for a little more cooking, but it was just as she likes it). Accompanied by skin-on fries, she liked it... but it's not very board-game friendly.
I had the Token Burger, basic burger with choice of cheese (havarti, cheddar, blue), lettuce, tomato, onion. Decent burger (especially with some of the aioli from the pickles added), pretzel roll, same fries. The Tankard burger is open face with havarti and onion stout gravy.
There's a pretty extensive drinks menu from which we didn't partake, but we'll probably go primarily for the video and pinball. Lots of classics including Wizard of Wor, Joust, Sinistar, Gorgar, and a very new ($1/game) Hobbit pinball machine.
Tokens can be banked on site, and charged to your food bill, 4/$1 or 25/$5.
