    It is.

Bonchon, the cult Korean fried chicken chain, is coming soon to Chinatown Square, promises a poster plastered to the front of Tony Hu’s former Lao Shanghai restaurant.

Gold Coast is getting a La Colombe at the fairly new 4 E Elm building (Elm & State). Building permit was issued a few weeks ago for the build out and now their site lists it as "Coming Soon":

Signs are up for "Sal's Trattoria" at 2834 N. Southport. This is the space that was Mirador, and Palette before that. Does anyone know anything about Sal's?

Folks, we removed several posts pertaining to Hero's Subs at Western & Addison. It is NOT closing. However, it is for sale.

Hero's Sub Shop Is For Sale But It's NOT Closed Yet, Owners Say

We cannot stress enough how important it is be accurate with these types of posts. It's really simple: if you're not sure and/or cannot provide third-party confirmation of your "news" in your post, DON'T POST. No one here wants to read inaccurate information and when you post it, you're certainly not doing the operators any favors, either. Please, get this right. The stakes are too high to not do so.

There is a sign in the storefront on Davis and Sherman in Evanston (I believe where Jamba Juice was) announcing Aloha Poke Co., but no information on when it is opening.

Yes, the new big permanent signage is up, which it wasn't last week. I felt my pulse beat quickening.

Not actually an opening, but a moving....

Aloha Poke in the French Market is jumping to a much larger space across the aisle - taking the place of the City Market seafood and sandwich counters. Sandwiches are moved down to the corner space and haven't seen a reappearance of any seafood in their display case.

And so, apparently is the northern suburban area. Although it is not on the La Colombe website yet, the former Edens Bank in Riverwoods has a "Coming Soon" sign out front: 2175 Deerfield Rd., about 1/4 mile west of I-94. As far as I know, this will be the first Chicago location outside of the city.

This is excellent news. I'll have to drive by and see if any opening dates are hinted.

The Franklin Park salumeria that taught Chicago how to pronounce the spicy spreadable Calabrian sausage known as "'nduja" is opening an Italian restaurant, deli and shop in West Town. Tempesta Market, from the father-son duo behind 'Nduja Artisans, will debut in early or midsummer at 1372 W. Grand Ave.

Vidalia is now open at 1964 W. Lawrence in the old Pit Stop space. They've remodeled and it's very cute inside. I've only been once, but really enjoyed my High Street pork sandwich: smoked pork shoulder, broccolini, provolone, grainy mustard on ciabatta. It was $12 which I thought was slightly high to come without any sides except for a pickle, but it definitely was a high quality sandwich.

While taking my daughter to the DMV in Deerfield to get her permit, I noticed Ristorante Abruzzo has closed.

Meanwhile, a second location of Drumstix is coming to the spot on St. John's in Highland Park that was Honey's Hot Chicken/Uptown Diner/City Park Grill.

In downtown Evanston, 618 1/2 Church Street, next door to Bistro Bordeaux, is one of those "locations of the damned", where restaurants don't seem to last very long. It was most recently the site of The Lucky Monk. The next place to take a shot at opening there, apparently soon from the looks of it, is Viet Nom Nom, whose website (click here) is already up and describes their culinary philosophy.

Eloise, a small bakery and lunch place in Vernon Hills with Delicious Cinnamon Rolls (as the sign stated) quietly closed a few weeks ago. No sign on the door, just a For Lease sign. I will miss this place, as they had REAL food that was executed well. Another Mom & Pop business gone. *sigh*

You've never heard of Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea. Michael Schultz is about to change that. A partner at Goddess & the Baker and founder of a coffee company that provides barista services to workplaces, Schultz plans to open the first of what he hopes will be dozens—perhaps hundreds—of coffee shops under that banner across the country. The chain will debut at the end of this month on a busy stretch of Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood, near the intersection of North and Damen avenues, and then open its second store as soon as a month later in the lobby of the Chicago Athletic Association hotel along Millennium Park.
