I fondly remember the day, lunch where drinking was not frowned upon.Trouble is I would get drowsy for that long afternoon.
My brewery visits are after work.
Alarmist is in the same building as my former office. They don't open during the week until around 4. Also, no food.
stevez wrote:It's not that kind of Deli, in fact, it's more of a dog/beef stand than a deli, though they do have a display case where they store a lot of their cold cuts and other stuff. If anything, it skews more Italian than Jewish.Panther in the Den wrote:Awesome!Dave148 wrote:Since you're going to be around the area for a bit longer:
Spiro's Deli

Famous for the Bomber - Italian beef, cheese, onions, pickles and special sauce. Trust me, it works. Subs and sausage products are top notch. Great house cut fries.
I love a great deli! Mmmm... Matzo Ball Soup (or maybe Mish Mash).
Thanks!

seebee wrote:We SGD Dubu'ed today, and kinda left underwhelmed. I had the Soup with ramen, beef, "spicy." It was decent, but very one note, and got boring. Also ordered the beef kahlbi, which could have probably saved the meal if it had more crispy bits from the grill. Nice flavor, but just...limp.
Panchan was excellent, and quickly replenished. Panchan was easily the star of our meal.
seebee wrote:Panther, if you're still around these parts, our regular lunch spots are Jd's Brew and Q, and also Emerson's for a damn decent 1/2 lb burger with fancy (ish) toppings, and excellent fries.
Back to SGD, there are a few spots in that mall that look interesting, no?

Next time I'm at Harrision's I know where I am having lunch, Spiro's, that's where!
Sounds like someone is planning Turducken for Thanksgiving?G Wiv wrote:...fresh duck, turkey, chicken
A double cheeseburger and fries could fill the need. Best in Chicago? Nah, but darn good.G Wiv wrote: I am having lunch, Spiro's, that's where!

Interesting place that also serves food.
polster wrote:Another recommendation if its not out of your way for lunch in Glenview on Golf Road is the old school Greek owned 'The Works' hotdog/burger/gyros fast food restaurant that has been in the same location for decades. The interior looks to be from the 70's with wood paneling like those old Ditka SNL sketches which can be described a suburban hole in the wall in a nondescript strip mall on Golf Road. They have great char grilled burgers as well as top notch gyros sandwiches.

Also a nice Korean bar in the same strip mall (but only opens after 5PM) is BDG Sports Gastropub. They have great Korean bar food including whole fried chicken and bulgogi hotdogs.

Another board recommendation. A Korean Noodle place. My first planned ethnic (Korean) repeat but somewhat a different style focus (noodles). I did briefly discuss my interests there in a conversation with seebee upthread.
Looks like a quick in and out, counter service.

With lunch looming, I looked ahead at my next weeks plans...
Brew Monday (11-19) (4:45 pm to 5:30 pm)
Log Cabin Bar, 346 Potter Rd, Des Plaines
Sometimes I can get weary of craft beer and sometimes, just sitting at a bar, taking in the local color can be very satisfying. Not unlike my visit to the Chicago Polish bar, Okocim, a few weeks ago.
Recommended by a friend who thought the place was comfortable.
Lunch Out Friday (on Wednesday) (11-21) (12:15 pm to 12:45 pm)
Happy Thanksgiving!
(Indian/Pakastani) Tandoori Restaurant, 9344 Ballard Rd, Des Plaines
Not sure how this crept into my list but my co-worker love the Indian cuisine and had missed my visit to Himalayan a few weeks ago. Not sure if she could join but there is nothing wrong with dangling a favorite out there.
Life is good!

Met Panther in the Den for lunch at Paik's today, nothing earth shattering but on the spectrum of tasty with quick friendly service, reasonable pricing and comfortable seating. Refills of water and refreshing roasted corn/barley tea served with a smile.
I dug my lunch of Tangsuyuk, Korean style sweet sour pork,
