In the meantime you can hop on the Eisenhower and eat where Uncle Mike eats on the weekends...
Lola Tining's Cuisine
1141 Garfield St, Oak Park
uhhhh........
No Thanks!Tried it twice before and- underwhelmed.
The steam tables "held" the pre-prepared foods for too long- the flavors were
no-where close to "Home-Style" Phillipino Food I've had at various friends homes...even her Adobo, was bland and unremarkable.
For my money - the food @
ISLA on Lawrence near Rockwell- remains
Chicago's
Gold-Standard for Pinoy- cuisine -
no matter what time/day of week that you go.
Yes- I'm bummed they "86'd" The amazing Lunch Special.
But- based on the huge takeaway business that they do- the trays of Catered Food I see walk outa their Kitchen- and a singularly sublime- Sinigang Soup,
ISLA is the place that Uncle Mike
outta be schlepping to for his Pinoy "Phix" - while his kitchen's closed.
I guess- If I was "
Jones-in"
that badly for Garlic Rice + Eggs + Tocino-
Filipino Tocino Breakfast @"Uncle Mike's" on Grand Avenue/ Paulina-CHICAGO... OMG! triple Yummm good! by
R. Kramer, on Flickr
I'll make it myself.....and sub-out Char-Siew from Chinatown for the Tasty Tocino.
It is truly unfortunate that Mike has taken so long to repair his Restaurant;
I'm sure that he and his employees are suffering financially as well as
all the "loyal" Customers that may not read Facelook postings and just assumed that they've hung up the Apron, after being shuttered for 3 months now.
I'm a fan- and will return-
when they get their Physical Plant in order.
