This place is remarkable. My last breakfast on earth, if I'm lucky, will be bangus and longanisa with fried rice and runny eggs. Just brilliant.

agreed, always had a terrific breakfast here. The spicy spam, tocino, bangus, skirt steak (I'm not even a steak for breakfast person but Uncle Mike's nails it), garlic rice, the tomato relish is killer. Hands down my favorite breakfast spot.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

I've been wanting to eat some breakfast at Uncle Mikes Place- but sadly since Christmas time- I've seen a sign in the corner door sayin-
    "Closed For Repairs". :(

Anyone have any further info? :?

Our roof leaked and flooded our kitchen! Uncle Mike's will be closed for repair until further notice.

    Thanks for the intel.
    Although-"some" still don't mind FACELOOK's data-mining/+ other egregious abuses....
I guess, it is inherently useful for broadcasting information (.....be it Fake News

    more truthful- ) :P

In the meantime you can hop on the Eisenhower and eat where Uncle Mike eats on the weekends...

    uhhhh........No Thanks!
Tried it twice before and- underwhelmed.
The steam tables "held" the pre-prepared foods for too long- the flavors were no-where close to "Home-Style" Phillipino Food I've had at various friends homes...even her Adobo, was bland and unremarkable.

For my money - the food @ ISLA on Lawrence near Rockwell- remains
Chicago's Gold-Standard for Pinoy- cuisine - no matter what time/day of week that you go.
Yes- I'm bummed they "86'd" The amazing Lunch Special.
But- based on the huge takeaway business that they do- the trays of Catered Food I see walk outa their Kitchen- and a singularly sublime- Sinigang Soup, ISLA is the place that Uncle Mike outta be schlepping to for his Pinoy "Phix" - while his kitchen's closed.

    I guess- If I was "Jones-in"
that badly for Garlic Rice + Eggs + Tocino-

I'll make it myself.....and sub-out Char-Siew from Chinatown for the Tasty Tocino.

    It is truly unfortunate that Mike has taken so long to repair his Restaurant;
I'm sure that he and his employees are suffering financially as well as
all the "loyal" Customers that may not read Facelook postings and just assumed that they've hung up the Apron, after being shuttered for 3 months now.

I'm a fan- and will return- when
they get their Physical Plant in order.

Sad to say if you go during the week the food will suffer from being held.

Go on the weekends, when friends and family are visiting, the place will be hopping with a good turnover.

Some some places are like that. BBQ places especially.

Thank god. Even though the date keeps moving back, I'd rather have a firm date than the "we will open again (but actually we're closing forever bye)."

    He's BACK!
Uncle Mike was holding court this morning in his namesake Restaurant-
lookin' tanned, and relaxed- while seated at The Counter (now with "deuces"- between the stools and the wall leaving' no "waiting area"-anymore......WHATEVER! :?

Everything was consistent- and flavorful- as usual-
the sign, of a well-organized, AND well-managed Restaurant - IMHO)

Just had a very fine Post-Holiday Phillipino Breakfast at Uncle Mike's Place, and were treated to an unusual version of his "Rice-Porridge-Soup" - Lugaw- that was mix of some Cabbage/Turnip/Parsnip Soup he'd made-
and folded into his normal Lugaw...... :?:
giving it a sweeter and thinner flavor
    than we normally enjoy there.
When asked about it- Mike- simply explained he had some "leftover"-
of The Cabbage/Tyrnip/Parsnip Soup- and since
it wasn't quite enough to serve alone,
decided- UNILATERALLY ( it's his "Place")- so
he decided to mix em together!
    8)
Great place to meet people there-too- totally enjoyed swapping Phillipino Catering/Food tales with an early morning diner there- who's
born in The Philippines/has a HUGE family complex there still
and happens to work in a related field as I do........

If you've never before had a Phillipino Breakfast - GO THERE!
    If you have- Go-Again!
