This looks like it might go perfectly with Antonius' minestra. Actually, I baked the ring in honor of my monthly "clean out the fridge day". Anything that couldn't outrun me made it into this sandwich .

Isn't it amazing how shaping the loaf into a ring makes for a much more elegant presentation? It's hard to tell from the photo, but this bread is about 14" in diameter.

Actually, if you didn't put the toppings on, and put them in a separate bag, it would be easier to ship. Please give it to the FedEx guy I've arranged for - in two minutes and eleven seconds your doorbell will ring.

Why you got to do me like this? At lunch time, no less. Now I'm hungry and don't feel like anything else.

Man, you are making me hungry. Look at all that avocado!

I wish my clean out the fridge day went so well. I waited too long, bricks of cheese truly brick hard and what WAS all that weird brothy unlabeled stuff in mason jars???

I love your monthly clean out the fridge day. We have a similar day once a week- ok twice a month. Growing up, the contents of the refrigerator and pantry were turned into Mussgo sandwiches, Mussgo Casseroles, and Mussgo Stews. Whatever was in the frig that "Must Go" was turned into fun comfort food and occasionally adventurous meals.

Good job on the rockin' sandwich. Hmmm maybe the fridge will get cleaned this afternoon instead of tommorrow morning... (running quickly to fridge)

Even more fun than "clean out the fridge day" is "clean out the freezer week" when I try to cook a week of meals from freezer booty*.

    Geo,
Regarding avocados: about a year ago the U.S. finally allowed avocados to be imported from Mexico. Since then, we have had a steady flow of the greatest avocados. All avocados here have a little label that shows the country of origin. I look for ones from Mexico. California ones are good too. Chilean ones are, with rare exception, awful.

The sandwich also contained 5 different kinds of cheese "of a certain age", salame napoli, salame cacciatore affumicato, sherry vinegar marinated red peppers, sweet onion slivers, olive oil, salt, pepper. You asked!

    Dagwood,

Was this sandwich for yourself or how many people feasted on this masterpiece?

You really do a lovely job of plating your food.

    Cathy2,

    Thank you.

I was joined by Blondie, Alexander, and Cookie. There was about a quarter of the sandwich left over which Daisy and the pups wanted, but I saved it for Mr. Dithers in the hope he would finally give me a raise. Gotta run. Today the Woodley's are coming over for lunch.

    Best,
    Dagwood
