Sunday in a visit to what has become quite the interesting little block of restaurants on Western just south of the Kennedy (still Logan Square?)anchored by Think and Cafe Bolero, but now including Honey 1 (where I was) and Thai Eatery, I visited on my way back from the package store what was to me a new spot, a Birrieria on the west side of Western.
Having already ordered my ribs and okra, I couldn't try anything, but that will change next time I'm in the area. The place was small, simple, inviting, and airy with the front and side doors open. They had no unlaminated menus to take, but I can remember some of it. Although the communication was not great due to my limited Spanish, we did establish the several goat dishes. We also established, but I think I was wrong on this, that the cabeza and lengua tacos were also goat-that's not correct is it?
    Anybody been there?

Many times. Only the birria is goat. There are also the Brazilian and Puerto Rican places, not to mention Danny's liquors and tap room. Excellent wait staff at Danny's.

PS, what is it about ribs and okra that precludes a little goat to whet the apetite?

But, I'm just realizing that you said "the west side of Western". BEJ is on the east side.

What's is the name of, and exactly where is the birrieria on the west side of the street?

Thanks, that must have missed my radar. I used to walk by it every day and I haven't been back since I moved out of the neighborhood.

    Are you sure?

My wife and I are pretty sure that the menu at the new location listed both the head and tongue tacos as being "goat".

Finally got back to BEJ this weekend. Unfortunately the new location has not made much progress and was almost empty (one person) at 6 PM Sunday. Still no takeout menu or business card. The menu itself is shorter too.
Nonetheless the goat was plentiful and tasty. $8 for a quart container that must have had a pound of meat in it. Meat was tender, broth just oily enough.
I also had understood from a prior visit that the tacos de lengua and cabeza were goat, but the new menu dispels that as both are described as "de res."
I hope this place stays around as the goat is delicious and BEJ with Danny's, a Thai place, Cafe Bolero on one side and Think and Honey One on the other makes for one of the tightest knots of food worthiness around.
