I'm taking a motorcycle trip from Chicago to Columbus, OH following US30 across Indiana and into Ohio (following US30/OH-309/OH-117/US33) (returning the same way a few days later). I head out early AM 6/23 (around 5 to get the heck out of Chicago area!).

Looking for breakfast and lunch recommendations (diner food is great!) as close to those roads as possible. Type of food is not the concern; just give me some good chow to fuel my ride.

I'll be stopping frequently for gas as the Sportster's tank isn't meant for long rides and the food stops are intended for some well needed rest.

    Thanks!!!!

For the return trip, you really ought to hit the Strongbow Inn outside Valparaiso (at 30 and 49). (They won't be open at 6:00 a.m. as you hurtle past on your way east.)

I travel US 30 between I 69 and I 75 fairly often and the best I come up with is Taco Bell--so eat before you get to Fort Wayne.

I did have a killer breakfast at a little diner in Nelsonville about 60 miles SW of Columbus on US 33. (From my CH post: "Real biscuits and great home fries (huge portions); the pies looked amazing." ) And that's a pretty area of Ohio to ride thru if you have the time...

    The Coffee Cup Restaurant
    615 Washington St. (US 33)
    Nelsonville, OH
    740-753-3336

And to suggest yet another detour, passing the giant windmills just West of Bowling Green on US 6 was pretty cool--they're right next to the road.

    Have a safe trip!

I travel to Columbus via route 33 often, but since I'm usually trying to push through without stopping, I don't have any food recommendations.

I did have an interesting experience once when I made a wrong turn in Decatur, Indiana (near the Ohio border). It was dark out and I didn't even realize that I had turned on the wrong road (apparently I was on Route 27) until I drove into the town of Berne, Indiana. I don't know if it was the poor light or my state of mind, but I thought that I had stumbled into an old alpine village. It was weird -- like a twilight zone episode. I don't even know if Berne looks like an alpine village or more relevantly, whether there are any good restaurants there. Still, it might be worth checking out. It's on Route 27, south of Decatur.
