Anyone have on opinion regarding who does a good version of this old standard. According to my wife, a friend of ours is going out with someone who requires (or at least requests) that this dish be available. I haven't eaten it in decades.

I had a really good version of it at Merlo a month or so ago.

Sabatino's makes a good veal marsala ... and for that matter, any number of good veal dishes. A full page of their menu is devoted to veal entrees, and it's something of a house specialty.

Must say, I've been bummed by most of the baby cow I've had recently.

Still, last Saturday, The Wife and I went to Cafe Bionda and I had a Veal Francese that I thought was remarkably good: two slices big as my hand, dipped in an egg mixture, quickly fried so the subtle milkiness of fresh calf popped right through.

I know you asked about Veal Marsala, so I will simply say that the version I had last month at Trattoria 31 would be very good if you spent the afternoon drinking beer at Comisky (what's the new name, again?) and weren't paying that much attention to what you were eating.

I haven't been there in a couple of years, but Harry Caray's, surprisingly, used to have exquisite veal -- not cheap, but gorgeous. I checked their web site, and they do offer veal marsala. Anyone been there recently? They used to (and may still) have absolutely beautiful, thin, tender scallops of veal -- not that pressed "Swiss steak" version of veal. I was glad to see that what used to be my favorite side dish is still on the menu -- spinach with garlic and oil. Again, I don't know if they've kept their standards up, but if they have, it's a good option for veal.

Thanks all. I'll pass the info along where I know it will be gratefully received.
