My mother is in her mode of a self-invited visit to her Lakeview daughters. She seems intent on going out to one of these places that she's heard about...One of which is Rick's Cafe on Sheridan Road.

Thoughts? Opinions as to what to order and what to avoid? I think we'll be going on Sunday for brunch?

Dono't know about brunch there, but every meal I've had at Rick's has been reasonably good; nothing stood out as great, but nothing was bad, either. Plus, I like the fact that it's BYOB.

I like Rick's because it is unique among the city's byob options. I don't think there's another byo place that serves good, relatively simple but elegant bistro fare. The menu is mostly French, with some Spanish and Moroccan influences (ie a paella and some phyllo wrapped pastries w/ cinnamon). I think the food is perfectly prepared, but not necessarily special. The bread is outstanding and served warm, straight from the oven. Life-size pictures of Bogart add to the charming Casablanca-evoking ambience. I'm relatively certain Rick's is not open for brunch.
