    I have been searching for this recipe for a long time. Have tried a few different ones and they didn't come out.

    I'm looking for the coconut jello or coconut pudding you get from dim sum. They are the white squares that are almost like jello, but less bite and more creamy.

    If anyone could help I would appreciate it.

    The white cubes I am familiar with are almond-flavored - essentially gelatin or agar with milk, sugar, and almond extract, often served with canned fruit. Could this be what you are seeking?

    Is this what you are looking for??

    Coconut Milk Jelly

    7 grams of White agar agar strands (found in asian markets)
    6 cups water
    3 pods cardamom, bruised
    1 small stick cinnamon
    2.5 cups palm sugar
    2 cups thick coconut milk
    Pinch of salt

    1. Soak agar agar strands in cold water overnight, then drain.

    2. When drained, the strands should measure approximately 1.5 cups loosely packed.

    3. Place the agar agar strands into a saucepan with the 6 cups of water, cardamom and cinnamon.

    4. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer it gently for about 30 minutes or until the agar agar strands are dissolved completely. Stir occassionally.

    5. Add the sugar stir until dissolved.

    6. Add the coconut milk and salt, stirring constantly while bringing the mixture to a simmering point.

    7. Remove from heat and strain mixture through a fine nylon sieve.

    8. Pour mixture into a wet mold and cool to room temperature.

    9. Chill mold until serving time.

    10. To serve, remove from mold, cut into cubes and place in dish.

    Would your Coconut Jelly recipe be similar to what they serve at LTH at the end of a meal? My 5 year old son loves that stuff and we have been dying to make it.

    Last time we went to LTH, they gave us a takeout container of the jello to make up for a previous visit when they were out. We didn't mention it, the waitress just remembered how dissapointed my son was last time...

    Now that's great service!!

    On a side note... What is Agar Agar?

    thanks guys... please help me... I am jonesing for some dim sum style coconut jello :|

    Agar agar is a seaweed product that can be melted into a gelatin. It is somewhat transparent or transluscent. It is often used as a gelatin substitute by vegetarians. You can typically find it at Asian grocery stores in the dried veggies aisle.

    There is an almond jello mix available in the Asian grocery stores. I believe that one of the alternate recipes on the box calls for coconut milk so that you can then make coconut almond jello.

    I can't be absolutely certain, but this sure sounds like haupia to me (the pic is a bit dark but it appears about right, too). Haupia is a common dessert in the islands (Hawaiian, that is). Recipes abound on the net; if you want a personal one, just pm me. Oh, and fwiw, use fresh coconut. Crack it and grate it your own self. It just ain't right without it's fresh coconut.
